Many years ago, after seeing how our society heavily sexualizes women for male pleasure, a man who had barely entered adulthood had the idea of doing burlesque to flip the double standard upside down. The idea rested in the back of his mind until the passing of a friend. He decided to do burlesque as a way of honoring his friend’s memory. It was more than a year later, where he fell victim to sexual abuse and felt that it was about time. He is doing burlesque to reclaim his body, honor his friend, and flip society’s gender expectations on their head. He is wild, but can be submissive. He is a sinner, but can be a saint. He is the jolt of burlesque.
